NELSON – Hikin’ for Lichen
- 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm
Hikin’ for Lichen
We are happy to welcome Rob Macrae for a crisp fall walk at Sproule Creek Trail. We will be looking for different species of lichens and mushrooms as we observe how the forest is changing as we step into winter. Rob is an instructor in the Integrated Environmental Planning program at Selkirk College and is best known for his popular mushroom hunting walks in the spring and fall. We will be focusing on lichens as we are a bit late to capture many of the fall mushroom species, but you never know what we might find!

Location & Directions: Turn onto Taghum Frontage Road from Highway 6 near Nelson (across from Taghum Shell). Then turn into Sproule Creek Road and drive 7km up. Near the end of the road, as pavement turns to gravel, watch for parking on your left. Find more trail info here.
Please be sure to dress for the weather, this event will run rain or shine.
There is paved road access to the trailhead parking lot. The trail is easy and relatively level, but with some stairs and short steeper sections that would not be suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. Please contact us if you have questions about the suitability of this hike for your family.
