MERRITT – Christmas Bird Count for Kids
- 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Christmas Bird Count for Kids
Alan Burger (Nicola Naturalist Society) and Loretta Holmes (Wildlife Technician Upper Nicola Band) will be our mentors. We should have plenty of knowledgeable birders present to share their passions about birds with us! We will be visiting two locations 15 minutes from town to look, hear and learn about overwintering birds. We will be filling out a Christmas kids Bird Count form. We will have two spotting scopes and binoculars for every child.
Location: meet at 10am at NVIT (lower parking lot) and we will convoy to our location (TBD but within a 15 minute drive from Merritt). We should be out for two hours.
What to expect and what to bring: Please pack snacks, water and something warm to drink and dress appropriately for the weather. Luckily the weather will be on the warmer side (forecast of 0 degrees C and overcast). We will try to make it as accessible for all. However depending on the weather there may be snow on the ground making walking a bit more difficult. We will be bringing one or two spotting scopes and are working on finding binoculars for each family to share. If you have a set of your own please bring them!
The event will be entirely outside and there will be lots of room to social distance.
