Meet Olena, one of our amazing NatureKids BC volunteers that helps provide meaningful moments in nature for families in the TriCities area!
Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
Hi, I am Olena, event organizer, running enthusiast and outdoors admirer. Together with my family, I came to Canada in 2023 and fell in love in how gently the nature takes over the urban everywhere in BC.
Why do you feel it is important to encourage families to experience nature?
As appears, even living next to all this immense nature in BC, some families simply do not know how to explore it. So we’ll help them!
Why is nature important to you?
I strongly believe that being familiar with how nature “works” will help my children to be more confident, prepared for life, creative and able to find things to do. Our recent one day Whistler visit has showed us more beauty here in BC, and that makes me want to explore more!
Can you share a fond memory of a past explorer day experience?
Though I am fairly new and have ran just a few Explorer Days, I still remember the one that opened this spring season (2024), and it was my first. The Mossom Creek Hatchery impressed with the welcoming attitude of the founder and the team, a big number of families who turned up and the venue itself, it is a gem steps away from the door step.
