Kevin is a Club Leader with the Smithers NatureKids BC Club!
Kevin grew up in southern Saskatchewan and northern Alberta, graduating from high school in
Grande Prairie. He served 42 years in the Canadian Armed Forces as an infantry officer, with
postings across Canada and internationally. His education includes an Honours BA in Politics
and Economics, and a MA in Disaster and Emergency Management. Kevin’s last regular Army
posting was to Kamloops as Commanding Officer of the Rocky Mountain Rangers, this included
managing the stand-up of Bravo Company in Prince George.
Now retired from paid work Kevin volunteers with the Red Cross (Emergency Management), BC Parks (Ecological Reserve Warden), the Smithers Bridging Committee, the Smithers Community Services Association Board, and the Bulkley Valley Community Resources Board.
Kevin and his wife JoAnne have resided in Smithers since 2021. They spend time regularly with their adult children, and granddaughters, all of whom live nearby. Kevin enjoys working on the family property and
gardens. His hobbies include reading non-fiction, hiking, skiing, canoeing, small boats, fishing, hunting and camping. Kevin sees getting kids outside to enjoy the wonder and beauty of nature
as important to keeping our community healthy and balanced.
