As we celebrate 25 years of NatureKids BC, we’re highlighting the incredible individuals who have shaped our community.
Meet Alwyn, a former NatureKid who turned her passion for the outdoors into a career dedicated to conservation, education, and climate action!
Meet Alwyn

Alwyn was a NatureKid from 2001-2006 and is now working at the Fraser Basin Council, supporting climate change initiatives. She has also worked with Parks Canada, helping restore sand dunes at Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, and today, she continues to give back as a NatureKids Club Ambassador in Vancouver.
Discovering Magic at the Seashore
Some of Alwyn’s earliest and fondest memories in nature take her back to the beach, where she spent hours exploring the shoreline. Lifting rocks to uncover tiny crabs and snails, peering into tide pools teeming with life—every visit was a new adventure. The ever-changing space between land and sea captivated her, sparking a fascination with coastal ecosystems that has stayed with her ever since. These early moments of curiosity and wonder laid the foundation for her lifelong love of nature and conservation.

Connecting People for Climate Action
Alwyn’s work is all about communication and collaboration. No two days are the same—one day, she might be running a workshop, the next, creating social media content, writing newsletters, or compiling reports. At the heart of it all, her role focuses on bringing people together, sharing knowledge, and fostering meaningful conversations about how we can respond to climate change. Through education and engagement, she helps bridge the gap between science and action, empowering communities to make a difference.
A Special Connection to Pacific Rim
For Alwyn, Pacific Rim National Park Reserve holds a special place in her heart. Having spent several years there, she feels a deep connection to its ancient rainforest trails. The towering trees, lush greenery, and incredible biodiversity make it a place of wonder and inspiration. Walking through the forest, surrounded by life in all its forms, reminds her of the importance of protecting these precious ecosystems.
Alwyn’s advice for young nature lovers? Stay curious and stay passionate—your love for nature is a strength! Exploring, asking questions, and immersing yourself in the natural world can lead to incredible opportunities and a lifelong appreciation for the environment.
