Kate Henderson is an East Vancouver parent and a teacher. She was raised in a small, coastal BC town by her Mum, who was active on community-based boards and committees, and her Dad who worked in the logging industry during the day and wrote environment and climate change op-eds in his evenings and weekends.
Kate is passionate about supporting young people to understand the incredible rich biodiversity of BC by getting out in nature and has translated her biology and teaching degrees into a unique career as environmental education program and resource developer, communicator, and facilitator. Following many years at Science World, Kate is now part of the School and Youth Leadership Programs team at Metro Vancouver. In this role, Kate connects teachers and high school youth across the region to the role of Metro Vancouver, and resources and experiential learning programs which explore sustainability in the region. She also coordinates Metro Vancouver’s Youth and Education Advisory Panel which brings youth ages 15 – 25 together to provide feedback on Metro Vancouver’s policies, plans, and programs. For the past decade, Kate has contributed to building capacity for environmental learning across BC as a board member and advisor with the Classrooms to Communities Education Network.
