SMITHERS- Native Plant Walk and Talk

Join us for a day of connecting with and learning more about our local plants!

This event will take place at the Bluffs Recreation Site (North 54.7677 North, -127.1651 West), a 4.5 km drive from downtown Smithers.

This event will be led by Jean Chirstian, a local master herbalist and retired classical homeopath.  We will meet at the Bluff’s parking lot from where the explorer day event will start.  Walking along the first 200 metres of the Bluffs “Boardwalk” Trail we will identify medicinal and edible plants, collecting some of the edibles.  Returning to the picnic table near the parking lot, we will make a salad and herbal tea from ingredients collected.  Bring a plate or bowl, a cup, and a fork to taste what we create.  And a bag lunch for those who can stay for lunch and socializing.

Anyone needing a ride or wishing to follow another vehicle to the Bluff’s can meet in front of the Scotia Bank for a 9:30 am departure.

Explorer Day Etiquette:

Be prepared to HAVE FUN

Pre-registration with your Club Leader is required for most Explorer Days (Friends are welcome if space permits).

Please arrive 5-10 minutes before the scheduled start time to ensure enough time for passport stamping and organization. Starting times are firm, and Leaders cannot wait for late-comers!

Please stay with the Leader and let them know if you are leaving early.

Children must always be accompanied by an adult guardian, who is responsible for their behaviour. Children consistently disrupting the experience of others may be asked to leave.

Bring appropriate weather gear, sunscreen, snacks, water, and other useful tools like binoculars, sketch books, cameras, and magnifying glasses.
