WILDROOTS – Leaf it to the Sun (K-Grade 3)

You’re invited to our next NatureKids BC WildRoots Home Learners Explorer Day in June! Please see details below:
  • Date: Tuesday, June 23, 2026
  • Time: 1:00pm – 2:30pm (check-in at 12:45pm)
  • Location: Strathcona Community Garden (759 Malkin Ave)
Learn about plant leaf shapes and why plant diversity is important. Students will collect leaves from native and invasive plants in the gardens and use sun-sensitive paper to create their own nature-based art to take back home. This field trip takes place at Strathcona Community Gardens on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
Please bring water, a snack, and weather appropriate clothing.
Accessibility: Gardens have unpaved pathways with a steep incline from the road. Students with mobility challenges or who use wheelchairs or other mobility devices may have trouble navigating the gardens. Please let us know if you have any questions about accessibility and we will do our best to accommodate.
*Registration is limited and available on a first come, first serve basis. All confirmed registrants will receive an email confirmation prior to the event.

Explorer Day Etiquette:

Be prepared to HAVE FUN

Pre-registration with your Club Leader is required for most Explorer Days (Friends are welcome if space permits).

Please arrive 5-10 minutes before the scheduled start time to ensure enough time for passport stamping and organization. Starting times are firm, and Leaders cannot wait for late-comers!

Please stay with the Leader and let them know if you are leaving early.

Children must always be accompanied by an adult guardian, who is responsible for their behaviour. Children consistently disrupting the experience of others may be asked to leave.

Bring appropriate weather gear, sunscreen, snacks, water, and other useful tools like binoculars, sketch books, cameras, and magnifying glasses.
