Christmas Bird Count for Kids at Lazo Marsh with Jocie Brooks!
We will be heading to Lazo Marsh in Comox to learn about and participate in another broad “citizen science” project – the Christmas Bird Count. Jocie Brooks, a former NatureKids leader and avid birder, will join us along with Frank Hovenden to explore the marsh and help us identify and count the birds we see there.
Location: We will meet at the entrance on Lazo Road. Follow Guthrie Road in Comox east to Lazo Road (as far as you can go on Guthrie). Turn left on Lazo. The entrance is on Lazo Road between Colby and Brent Roads.
Please Bring:
– binoculars if you have them
– bird identification cards if you have one (from your nature kids welcome pack or other with local birds in them)
** I have some ID cards and binoculars for the kids so not a problem if you don’t have any
While many people feed the birds at Lazo Marsh, we are asking families not to bring bird seed on this outing.
If you are interested, here is a link to a brochure about the Lazo Marsh Conservation Area. The conservation area is adjacent to the NorthEast Woods area in Comox and there are lots of trails to explore at another time. https://www.comoxvalleyrd.ca/ sites/default/files/docs/ Parks-Recreation/4lazomarsh_ brochure_201703.pdf
