Family Birding is a great way to explore the wonderful sounds and colours in nature as the seasons progress. Observing together, children and parents can discover bird species and observe their calls and behaviours.
On Sunday, October 5, Nature Salt Spring will hold a special outing at Xwaaqw’um (Bugoyne Provincial Park) designed for you and your kids, NatureKids, to feel the passion of birding. It’s an interesting time of year, as some birds are beginning to migrate away while many others will be arriving to brighten our gloomy winter days.
Walking for 2 to 3 kilometres we will seek out birds of the forest, open spaces, and in the bay. We’ll give tips on how to use binoculars successfully, and touch on the marvelous birding app, Merlin. You will leave with greater confidence in how to see more birds on your own at almost any time of the year!
When: Meet Kathleen, on Sunday, October 5, at 9:00 – 11am
Where: At the cultural circle above the lower parking lot in Xwaaqw’um
What to bring: warm footwear, binoculars, a hat
We do have three pairs of binoculars for children. Of course, binoculars are not at all essential! We do have three pairs of binoculars for children. Of course, binoculars are not at all essential!
