SUNSHINE COAST- Water Warriors

Join NatureKids BC on Saturday, June 6 for a hands-on water testing Explorer Event in coordination with the Sunshine Coast Ocean Festival!

After all, Earth is mostly water, and protecting water quality and stream health is essential for healthy ecosystems and communities.

Families will meet at ḵelx̱aminkwu – John Daly Park in Kalpilin, where participants will learn how to use Water Rangers testing kits to collect important baseline data on local water quality and stream health. Together, we’ll measure parameters such as dissolved oxygen, temperature, conductivity, and selected metals, with collected data uploaded to the public Water Rangers database to support ongoing community science efforts.

If time allows, we’ll also compare our findings using a Hanna multimeter!

📍 Location: ḵelx̱aminkwu – John Daly Park, Kalpilin
🕥 Time: 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Register today and help us explore, learn, and protect our local watersheds!

Explorer Day Etiquette:

Be prepared to HAVE FUN

Pre-registration with your Club Leader is required for most Explorer Days (Friends are welcome if space permits).

Please arrive 5-10 minutes before the scheduled start time to ensure enough time for passport stamping and organization. Starting times are firm, and Leaders cannot wait for late-comers!

Please stay with the Leader and let them know if you are leaving early.

Children must always be accompanied by an adult guardian, who is responsible for their behaviour. Children consistently disrupting the experience of others may be asked to leave.

Bring appropriate weather gear, sunscreen, snacks, water, and other useful tools like binoculars, sketch books, cameras, and magnifying glasses.
