On Saturday Sept 6 from 10:00 to 11:30, join us in Stanley Park for “The Putting Green Trees Include Some Giants” with nature mentor and author, Nina Shoroplova. Upon arrival, families will receive a BINGO-like sheet of fascinating things to find in our meeting area. For example, a tree with leaves edged in pink, a cone as big as your shoe, and a tree you wouldn’t want to shake hands with! Families will have 30 minutes to try to find as many of the 24 items as possible, which will be followed by a short talk by Nina about the area and its magnificent trees. We will then explore some more, and we’ll end our time together with a very large group tree-hug!
Nina Shoroplova has wandered through Vancouver’s urban forest for years and marvelled at the multitude of tree species that flourish here. Her love of the area led her to write Legacy of Trees: Purposeful Wandering in Vancouver’s Stanley Park (2020). The book covers “Stanley Park’s seawall and beaches, wetlands and trails, pathways and lawns in every season and every type of weather, revealing the history, beauty, and botanical properties of many tree species.” We are thrilled to have Nina as our guide for this very special Explorer Day.
