Christmas Bird Count for Kids!
Some of you attended our September Explorer day at Rocky Point Bird Observatory, where we learned from our fantastic Nature Mentor Andrea, how to spot birds, use binoculars and pay attention to bird details like size, colour, and behaviour. This is our chance to practice some of our skills as part of the Christmas Bird Count. This is a citizen science project which has been going on in one form or another for over 100 years!
The data will be submitted to Bird Studies Canada (which collects data from CBC4Kids events across the country) and is also submitted to eBird. More information on the scientific value of the Christmas Bird Count, can be found through this link: https://www.audubon.org/ conservation/science/ christmas-bird-count
Andrea will be our Nature Mentor for this Explorer Day activity and is the coordinator for the event. She has some fun games in store, as well as some birding guides to share. Hot chocolate and treats will be provided to keep us going!
