SUMMARY:TRICITIES - Buntzen Lake Watershed
DESCRIPTION:Come join us for a nature walk at Buntzen Lake to learn about the history of the park\, and to discover the importance of watersheds! \nWe will be taking a walk through the park with a guide from BC Hydro to share some interesting facts about the history of the lake\, some science about hydroelectric generation\, and we will conclude the day by creating watershed diagrams! \nThis event is best suited for older children ages 8-12 who are able to walk up to 3 km\, and interested in learning about the science of watersheds and hydroelectricity. The terrain can include hills and uneven ground\, so proper footwear is recommended! We anticipate the event being 2 hours in duration. \nEvent Details\n\nDate: Saturday\, August 15\, 2026\nTime: 1:00pm (please arrive at 12:45pm to sign in)\nLocation: Buntzen Lake recreation area entrance\, next to the bus stop and park information sign\n\nParking is based on a lottery system and families will need to register their car and plate number in order to secure a spot. Parking passes are free\, and become available at 7:00 AM 48 hours before the selected date (7:00 AM on August 13th in this case). A parking pass will be required to enter the park\, so please ensure to secure your spot and have confirmation ready as you enter. Please note that cell service can be weak and/or unavailable within the park. The Farm took its fledgling steps in 2011 as the first urban farm on public parkland in the region\, and the first opportunity for those on the North Shore to participate in creating a local sustainable agricultural system. It is a community hub that brings together hundreds of neighbours to get their hands dirty\, buy produce\, and celebrate food. \nLoutet Farm provides an outdoor classroom featuring hands-on farming experiences to build childrens’ awareness of the impact our food can have on our health and the environment.
