SUMMARY:SALT SPRING - The Wonderful Ways of Water
DESCRIPTION:This month’s NatureKids Explorer Day will have you and your kids building dams\,canals\, and waterways\, maybe even creating waterfalls and wetlands! \nWhat is the big deal about water? Where is the water coming from? Where does it go?Is water important? How does nature handle too much water? Do plants play a role? We’ll briefly discuss water molecules\, the water cycle\, ground water versus surfacewater\, introduce the Blue Ecology water cycle then look for evidence of meandering\,scouring and pooling. \nThe plan is to cover a fair distance\, about a kilometre\, observing the ways of watermoving downhill before arriving at the work area. That’s where the construction and funwill be. Of course\, the return journey will be uphill\, but it’s not too steep. \nWhat to bring: A sand box shovel or garden trowel\, small digger (if you wish). We’llsource out other tools if necessary\, from the forest. \nWhat to wear: Boots\, warm layers\, rain/mud pants\, or if it’s really raining\, the full rainsuit \nWhen: Sunday afternoon\, Nov. 23\, from 1:30 to 3:30 \nWhere: Lower Channel Ridge. Meet at Broadwell and Tern where parking is easy.Gather at the mailboxes. \nRegister with Kathleen\, at khmaser@shaw.ca and make sure you are a member ofNatureKidsBC which again is free this year!  \n
