Join in to learn about some of these amazing creatures that are found in the Salish Sea. \n\nJoan is a Marine Biologist and Marine Educator who has been working as a guide with a local whale watching company since 2003. She is also the Chair of the Marine Biology Committee of Nature Vancouver.\n\nNo registration required.\nJoin us via: https://zoom.us/j/94853281927?pwd=QUZEbEtESjA3bFYzbFhDUkZhamtMZz09\nMeeting ID: 948 5328 1927\nPassword: 013173

SUMMARY:VANCOUVER
DESCRIPTION:Explore Capilano River Regional Park \nOn this Explorer Day\, we’ll have an opportunity to see\, hear\, smell\, touch\, and explore life in the temperate rainforest. We’ll enjoy fun hands-on discovery and learning activities led by a park interpreter amongst the trickling streams\, giant trees and trails of Capilano River Regional Park in North Vancouver. \nIn order to maintain safe physical distancing\, this Explorer Day will be a little different than usual. We will have 2 groups\, each with a max. number of 6 people including parent/guardian\, that will go on a one hour tour. Tour #1 will be from 10:00 to 11:00\, and Tour #2 from 11:00 to 12:00. We recommend taking the time before or after your tour to visit beautiful Capilano Lake\, the reservoir where our drinking water in Vancouver comes from! See photo below. \nWe are recommending that only one parent accompany their child/children on the tour\, to maximize the number of children able to participate in this program. We will attempt to combine similar ages of children in the 2 tour groups. A waitlist will be kept in case we have more interested families than spots available. \nMeeting location: Capilano Hatchery\, 4500 Capilano Park Road\, North Van. Use the park entrance at the intersection of Capilano Road and Mt Crown Road and proceed to the end of the road to find the hatchery building. See attached map. If you are coming by public transit\, there are multiple routes to access the Hatchery. Please check out the TransLink website to see which route works best for you. \nDress for the weather. This tour will go rain or shine. The pathways in the park are gravel so wear closed-toed shoes with some grip if possible. \nCovid 19. To keep us all safe throughout the walk\, families will stay together. Parents/guardians will be responsible for maintaining 6 ft. distance from the interpreter and other families. Face masks are welcome\, but not required. Please note\, that although other Park goers are respectful of physical distancing\, it may not always be possible to maintain 2 metres along the forest trails. \nPlease do not register for this event if anyone in your family bubble has symptoms of Covid 19 such as coughing or fever\, or if anyone in your family bubble has been in contact with someone who has such symptoms. Thank-you!! \nRSVP to vancouver@naturekidsbc.ca with the names and ages of your children.

We hope this will be a unifying activity for the whole organization across the province\, setting the  foundation for the exciting next 20 years!\n\n\nWe would like to invite your family to plant a shade tree at the Surrey Centre Cemetery. We are going to begin by planting twelve shade trees to grow Surrey’s urban forest. City of Surrey staff will provide all tools and training.  Planters will work as family units (up to five people) to plant one large tree. Wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather. The event will run rain or shine\, but could be cancelled in high winds. Pre-registration required for all families. SUMMARY:RIDGE MEADOWS
DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to announce our collaboration with Alouette River Management Society’s (A.R.M.S.) September 27th Rivers Day in Maple Ridge! \nWe plan to choose an area along the Alouette River to clean up trash with tongs and bags and learn about how littering negatively effects the habitats of so many different creatures. We have not yet determined the location but it will likely be at or near Maple Ridge Park. \nIn light of the ongoing COVID-19 crises\, this event must\, unfortunately\, be limited to only 4 families. This will allow us to keep our group relatively small and social distancing between families more successful. \nThe event will take place between 11am and 1pm. \nPlease rsvp as soon as you can to reserve a spot in this event with us and help us help the creatures of our river habitats.

SUMMARY:NORTH OKANAGAN
DESCRIPTION:Salmon Run \nWe will meet at Creekside Park (at the parking lot) to observe the Kokanee Salmon run\, learn about their life cycle and play socially distanced games. I will send out an email with our new safety guidelines and informed consent agreement. With hand sanitizer\, our new forms and positive language to encourage children to remain socially distanced\, we are ready for more outdoor learning 🙂 Masks are invited/optional but not required. We are asking for a minimum of 4 children to run this event (I doubt we will need a maximum based on the size of our club). \nI believe now\, more than ever\, outdoor learning is key. NatureKids is a great way to meet with other families in our community in a safe way to connect with one another\, other families and the outdoors.

SUMMARY:COMOX VALLEY
DESCRIPTION:Wildwood Forest Discoveries\n\n\nExplorer Day this Sunday at Wildwood Forest! We are lucky to have Forester Julia Leropoli join us for a walk through Wildwood\, where we will observe differences in the forest as we go through the plantation area\, do some nature art and learn about what can be found in the forest – all while discovering another great walking trail in the Comox Valley!RSVP:\nWe are requesting that anyone wanting to attend this Explorer Day RSVP by email by Friday 23rd\, as we need to have a sense of numbers for our programming and we also have a group size limit on account of Covid. We will have a maximum of 6 family groups and a total maximum of 15 people\, including leaders. It will be “first come first served”\, and I will confirm your attendance by email. In your RSVP\, please indicate the number and age of participants in your family group. \nWhere to meet:\nWe will meet at the Burns Road Entrance to Wildwood – it’s about a 15 minute drive out from Courtenay. From the Percy/Condensery intersection\, take Condensery Road North\, where Condensery turns into Dove Creek Road\, turn left onto Burns Road. Follow Burns Road past Wildwood Road. There is a small parking area for Wildwood on the right hand side. Here is a link to the map in the brochure: https://www.comoxvalleyrd.ca/sites/default/files/docs/Parks-Recreation/wildwood_forest_brochure_june2017.pdf. Please note\, parking will be tight. There is a bit of room for parking on the side of the road\, but please be very careful around the road. We’ll meet at the information kiosk. \nWhat to Bring:\nAs always\, please come dressed to spend approximately 2 hours outside. The trail is in good shape\, so boots likely aren’t required unless it is a very wet day. You may want to bring a snack/drink\, but we won’t be taking a formal break for snack this time. Please leave dogs at home\, and help us remind the kids to “leave nature in nature”. \nWeather etc.\nWe typically head out rain or shine\, but I will cancel the outing if winds look too high to be safe in the forest. If the weather looks “iffy” on Sunday morning\, I’ll send out an email by 10am confirming whether or not we are going ahead.
