SUMMARY:NELSON - Snow Sculpture Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This explorer day we will get a chance to make snow sculptures! Our mentor Keith\, has been making snow sculptures at the Castlegar Nordic Ski Area for a few years. We will get a chance to learn how large snow sculptures are made as well as try making our own sculptures. \n \nWarm drinks will be provided – please bring your own mugs\n\n\n\nClick here to register for the event!\n\n \nWe will be meeting at the Mud Lake Trailhead (Viking Centre). There is a parking lot and outhouses on site. We will be able to use the Viking Centre as a place to warm up and eat snacks and lunch.  We will have to walk a small distance on a snow-covered trail to get the to snow sculpture location. Dogs are not allowed so please keep the furry friends at home. There is no cell service at this location. \n \nA note on trail etiquette: Please be careful to make minimal impact on the trails and make sure they’re not blocked off to skiers.\n \nIf you would like to ski after the event please ensure you have paid the appropriate day-use fees. DESCRIPTION:We’re starting off 2024 with a visit to the Maplewood Flats in North Vancouver on Saturday\, January 27\, 1:15 to 2:30PM (approx. end time). Our Nature Mentor\, Sam MacTavish\, will be guiding us along the forest trails and along the shoreline of Burrard Inlet while highlighting the wide variety of plants and birds that we might see in this wild bird sanctuary. We’ll also learn about some of the habitat restoration work being done at the Flats. This is an easy 1 hour walk with lots of stops\, suitable for all ages. \nSam works with Wild Bird Trust at the Coast Salish Native Plant Nursery and as part of the habitat restoration team. Sam loves to share his knowledge of nature with others. \n“Maplewood Flats is situated within the traditional and unceded territory of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation. SUMMARY:SALT SPRING ISLAND - Creekside Rainforest Walk
DESCRIPTION:Come and celebrate Family Day weekend with a NatureKids family outing!  We’ll walk amongst huge cedar\, maple\, alder\, fir and hemlock trees and learn a bit about each kind.  We’ll observe the creek and imagine being an adult salmon\, swimming upstream to spawn\, or a salmon fry hatching in these rushing waters.  We’ll listen and watch for birds and other critters\, and explore this newly-expanded Nature Reserve. DESCRIPTION:Feel the mystery and excitement of the universe with a visit to the Trottier Observatory and an Astronomy workshop on Saturday\, March 9th\, 10:30-12:00. With our guides\, we’ll participate in hands-on activities and demonstrations exploring the wonders of astronomy\, from planets and galaxies to constellations. Explore the mysteries of gravity\, unravel the timeline of key astronomical events\, and discover the Doppler effect. Other activities may include an outdoor walking tour of the Trottier Observatory with introduction to star charts\, a cosmic calendar\, sun dial and a peep into the telescope inside the dome (weather-permitting). This Explorer Day is recommended for children ages 5 and up. \nNestled within the heart of the Simon Fraser University\, Burnaby campus\, the Trottier Studio for Innovative Science Education and the Trottier Observatory and Science Courtyard have been bringing science education and astronomy to students\, families\, and the general public since 2014. \nThe event is now FULL.
