SUMMARY:TRI- CITIES - The Secret Lives of Trees
DESCRIPTION:Come join us for a nature walk in ƛ̓éxətəm Regional Park (formerly known as Riverview) to learn about the secret lives of trees!\n\nWe will be taking a walk in the park with an arborist to learn some interesting facts about trees that you may not know\, probably intertwined with some history and some interesting science!\n\nThis event is best suited for older children ages 8-12 who are able to walk up to 3 km\, and interested in learning about the science of trees\, the talk will be a little bit factual in nature.  Terrain includes hills and uneven ground.  We anticipate the event being 2 hours in duration.\n\nMeeting time: 1 pm (please arrive at 1245 to sign in)\nDate: Sunday\, May 24th\nMeeting Location: Serenity Gardens by the Henry Esson Young Building (HEY Building) in Coquitlam\nParking is available in front of the HEY building\nEvent will run rain or shine\n\nWhat should I bring?  water bottle\, sunscreen\, proper footwear\, and your curiosity!\n\nPlease note there are no washrooms or water fountains on the grounds.\n\nThis event is public\, and is being run by the Riverview Horticultural Centre Society.  They will provide an orientation for the walk\, and other members of the public will be present\, but we can be together as our own Nature Kids group.\n\nhttps://rhcs.org/tree-tours#tree-tours\n\nDirections:\n\n\nEnter the site at the Colony Farm Road traffic light (or Holly Drive off the Lougheed Hwy)\nTake Holly Drive through the hospital grounds\, then go uphill.\nOn Oak Crescent\, and the Henry Esson Young building (H.E.Y.) is on your right on Kalmia Drive.\nFind parking where permitted\, follow event parking signage.\nMeet at Serenity Gardens\, behind the Henry Esson Young building (H.E.Y.)\, tour starts there.

Stroll along the 308 meter long suspended walkway high among the trees and explore a living garden filled with rare plants and important tree species. From this unique vantage point explorers of all ages experience the forest in a whole new way while learning about plants\, local sustainability and the delicate balance of nature. \nRSVP today \nPlease bring water\, a snack\, and weather appropriate clothing. \nAccessibility: Much of UBC Botanical Garden is accessible by wheelchair or motorized cart for guests with accessibility and mobility challenges.
