The hike follows bike trails through dry grassland\, Douglas-fir forest with an understory of pine grass\, and a moist gully with Douglas maple and Saskatoon bushes. We’ll stop periodically to discuss the vegetation\, bird life\, and geology. The hike is moderate in difficulty\, with some steep and uneven sections near the start where the trail drops down into a dry creek bed. Good footwear\, a hat\, and sunblock are highly recommended. We will meet at the trailhead\, which is between the houses at 3072 and 3076 Similkameen Dr. Parking is available on the street. The hike follows bike trails through dry grassland\, Douglas-fir forest with an understory of pine grass\, and a moist gully with Douglas maple and Saskatoon bushes. We’ll stop periodically to discuss the vegetation\, bird life\, and geology. The hike is moderate in difficulty\, with some steep and uneven sections near the start where the trail drops down into a dry creek bed. Good footwear\, a hat\, and sunblock are highly recommended. Participants can choose between two options: a short hike to a lookout (distance about 3 km\, net elevation change 50 meters\, duration 1 hour) and a longer loop through forest trails (distance about 6 km\, net elevation change 150 meters\, duration 2.5 hours).
