SUMMARY:VANCOUVER
DESCRIPTION:Native Planting by Renfrew Ravine \n\nOn Saturday\, October 17th from 2:00 – 4:00 PM\, our Vancouver Club will participate in another Explorer Day focused on ecological restoration. This time we’ll go to Renfrew Ravine (north end) in East Vancouver with Nature Mentors from the Still Moon Arts Society and Still Creek Streamkeepers. Our guides will teach us about the importance of native plants for land and water habitats and ecosystems. Then we’ll remove some invasive species in the ravine and replace them with native plant species. \nIf you have your own garden or work gloves\, feel free to bring them; however\, gloves\, shovels\, and hand sanitizer will be provided.  Dress for the weather\, and wear sturdy\, water-resistant shoes that you don’t mind getting a bit muddy. Families are encouraged to bring their own snacks and drinks. \nTo learn more about our mentors’ organizations\, visit stillmoon.org. \nMeeting Location\nWe will be meeting at the entrance to the boardwalk by Renfrew St. and the Boyd Diversion (close to E. 22nd Ave). See attached map. \nIf you are taking public transit\, check the Translink Trip Planner to find your best route. https://new.translink.ca/trip-planner. \nPlease RSVP here. \nCOVID-19\nWe will be following NatureKids BC’s recommended protocol to ensure that we are doing everything in our power to stop the spread of COVID-19. Because our Explorer Days are held outdoors\, we have the opportunity to properly social distance. Face masks are welcome but not required. \nPlease do not register for this event if you or anyone in your family bubble has symptoms of COVID-19 such as coughing\, fever\, vomiting\, diarrhea\, loss of taste/smell\, or if you have been in contact with someone who has such symptoms or tested positive.

SUMMARY:COMOX VALLEY
DESCRIPTION:Wildwood Forest Discoveries\n\n\nExplorer Day this Sunday at Wildwood Forest! We are lucky to have Forester Julia Leropoli join us for a walk through Wildwood\, where we will observe differences in the forest as we go through the plantation area\, do some nature art and learn about what can be found in the forest – all while discovering another great walking trail in the Comox Valley!RSVP:\nWe are requesting that anyone wanting to attend this Explorer Day RSVP by email by Friday 23rd\, as we need to have a sense of numbers for our programming and we also have a group size limit on account of Covid. We will have a maximum of 6 family groups and a total maximum of 15 people\, including leaders. It will be “first come first served”\, and I will confirm your attendance by email. In your RSVP\, please indicate the number and age of participants in your family group. \nWhere to meet:\nWe will meet at the Burns Road Entrance to Wildwood – it’s about a 15 minute drive out from Courtenay. From the Percy/Condensery intersection\, take Condensery Road North\, where Condensery turns into Dove Creek Road\, turn left onto Burns Road. Follow Burns Road past Wildwood Road. There is a small parking area for Wildwood on the right hand side. Here is a link to the map in the brochure: https://www.comoxvalleyrd.ca/sites/default/files/docs/Parks-Recreation/wildwood_forest_brochure_june2017.pdf. Please note\, parking will be tight. There is a bit of room for parking on the side of the road\, but please be very careful around the road. We’ll meet at the information kiosk. \nWhat to Bring:\nAs always\, please come dressed to spend approximately 2 hours outside. The trail is in good shape\, so boots likely aren’t required unless it is a very wet day. You may want to bring a snack/drink\, but we won’t be taking a formal break for snack this time. Please leave dogs at home\, and help us remind the kids to “leave nature in nature”. \nWeather etc.\nWe typically head out rain or shine\, but I will cancel the outing if winds look too high to be safe in the forest. If the weather looks “iffy” on Sunday morning\, I’ll send out an email by 10am confirming whether or not we are going ahead.
