SUMMARY:WILDROOTS - Late fall fungal diversity!
DESCRIPTION:Who is still making spores? This is an introduction to late fall fungal diversity. Down to the leaf litter\, on logs\, on twigs or wood chips\, a lot of fungi (including mushrooms) are still very active and producing millions of spores before the winter sets slow down their activity. December is an uncertain month for mushrooms\, this year (2023) seems to be a mild late fall\, so we have a good chance of finding them. In case of frost\, we will have to look a bit harder\, but with more eyes\, we always find more fungi! \nFeatured nature mentor – Ludovic Le Renard: Ludo studied fungi for his PhD dissertation which he defended at UBC in 2019. He worked as a researcher at UBC until 2021\, and then worked for a startup developing medicines from mushrooms for the last two years. He is an active member of the Vancouver Mycological Society and loves sharing his passion for these overlooked organisms. \nClick here to register! \nThis event is for NatureKids BC members. Become a member today! \n
