Meet Tricia, one of our amazing NatureKids BC volunteers that helps provide meaningful moments in nature for families in the North Vancouver area!

Volunteer with us today!

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you experience nature around you?

I grew up in the Lynn Creek watershed, on the unceded xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), and səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) territories.  I experience nature as a friend and a teacher – a place where I can be relaxed and alert at the same time. I try to honour and connect with the many beings who are living their lives in the same place where I live mine.

What do you like about volunteering?

I joined NatureKids because the organization provides an accessible way for families to connect and enjoy nature together. I also appreciate the fact that NatureKids focuses on bringing families together with enthusiastic nature mentors.

Do you have a favourite NatureKids BC moment that you can share with us?

Some of my favourite NatureKids moments have been at Colony Farm learning about bird banding. The children are always so delighted to hold a bird in their hand and watch it fly away. I also very much enjoyed being on the writing and editing team for NatureWild.
