The Victoria NatureKids club joined the Gorge Waterway Action Society on a lovely June day to explore the Gorge Waterway Nature House at the beautiful Esquimalt Gorge Park!
The Gorge Waterway Action Society is a non-profit organization that supports environmental education, stewardship, restoration and conservation projects. Lili, a Geography student at the University of Victoria and summer intern at the Society, shared her nature knowledge with NatureKids families.

NatureKids had a great time exploring the nature house which offers many hands on activities, including a Seaquaria Aquarium touch tank full of local marine species. This is a lovely spot to explore with your family as the nature house also offers a library, gift shop and concession.

Lili also led the group on a guided nature walk along Gorge Creek to learn about the history of how and why the creek was restored and shared how people have impacted this fragile habitat. NatureKids also learned about native species found in the area, and about the current and historical significance that the Gorge Waterway has to the Lekwungen and other Coast Salish Peoples.

A big thank you to Lili for leading such an exciting tour of the nature house and park, and to our wonderful, dedicated volunteer club leaders for organizing an exciting outing for NatureKids families!
