As we celebrate 25 years of NatureKids BC, we’re highlighting the incredible individuals who have shaped our community.
This week in our Voices of NatureKids series, we’re celebrating someone who has been a part of our story for many years—Tricia Edgar.
From leading clubs to serving on the board and contributing regularly to NatureWILD magazine, Tricia’s connection to NatureKids BC runs deep.
Nurtured by Nature from the Start

“I grew up down the street from a forest and across from an abandoned house with a large garden,” she recalls. “I remember walking around the apple trees and flowers, feeling like I was on a treasure hunt.”
That early sense of wonder grew with her, and today she still finds magic in the small moments—like the time she and her daughter sat quietly on moss during a forest hike and a curious owl flew in and perched above them.
Moments of Awe and Joy in Nature
For Tricia, one of the most unforgettable NatureKids memories is visiting Colony Farm for bird banding.“The kids get to hold the birds briefly, acting as a perch so the birds can launch from their hands. They’re always in awe!”
It’s moments like these—where curiosity meets connection—that have inspired Tricia to stay involved over the years.
“NatureKids clubs are such a positive environment. People are happy to be outdoors with friends, enjoying nature together.” Her experiences as a volunteer are filled with the joy of shared discovery and the simple power of time spent in nature.
A Warm Welcome to Great Canadian Outdoors
As a volunteer, Tricia has seen firsthand the impact NatureKids has on families: “It’s an affordable way to meet other families and connect with nature mentors. I’ve seen many families who are new to Canada use NatureKids as a welcoming way to explore nature in their new home.”And as a donor, Tricia is passionate about keeping the program accessible:
“With the rising cost of living, having affordable access to nature mentorship is more important than ever. I want to make sure NatureKids stays within reach for all families.”
