Meet Alyssa one of our amazing NatureKids BC volunteers that helps provide meaningful moments in nature for families in the Nanaimo area!
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you experience nature around you?
My name is Alyssa, and I love going for trail runs with my dog, exploring beaches, and swimming!
What do you like about volunteering?
I love volunteering as a way to connect to the community and give back. I benefitted from many volunteer-led programs when I was younger, and it’s really fulfilling to pass it on. NatureKids BC’s mission really resonates with me. I believe being out in nature has so many benefits for kids and adults. One of my favourite summer jobs was working as a park interpreter, and now I get to use those skills to create space for kids and their families to wonder at nature. Plus, I also get to learn new things!
Do you have a favourite NatureKids BC moment that you can share with us?
We recently did a birdwatching explorer day with many young Naturekids, and we had a blast making bird feeders with peanut butter and birdseed. All the kids were really excited to hang their bird feeders and see what birds would come visit.
