Meet Chantelle, one of our amazing NatureKids BC volunteers that helps provide meaningful moments in nature for families in the Surrey area!
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you experience nature around you?
I’ve been involved with NatureKids since 2019. I’m passionate about getting kids outside and love fostering their sense of curiosity in nature. I experience nature around me through regular visits to parks, hiking, and through my work in environmental stewardship. Part of caring for nature is just getting to know it first so I hope I can help local families do that!
What do you like about volunteering?
I volunteer with NatureKids because I support their goals and am keen to be involved in programs that get families outdoors, especially in communities that are more urban. I joined NatureKids to spend time outside with local families in my community, learn from and connect other leaders, and to hopefully foster curiosity in nature in all those who come to our Explorer Day events.
Do you have a favourite NatureKids BC moment that you can share with us?
One of my all time favourite memories is from a camping trip with our club back in 2019. We explored the beach for hours, practiced plant identification and sang lots of songs by a campfire. One of my recent favourite NatureKids moments was our fall visit to Tynehead Regional park. We spotted salmon, played salmon-themed games and was a lovely day in the park.
