Meet Lisa, one of our amazing NatureKids BC volunteers! Lisa has been volunteering with us and connecting Texada Island families to nature since 2022.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you experience nature around you?
My family and I live on Texada Island and homeschool our children (7 and 8 years). My school and work background is in Ecology. While out in nature I feel most balanced, in tune, and at ease with myself. Being outdoors allows my family to be immersed in nature’s beauty and cycles of life all around us – one of Earth’s truest magic. I am so thankful to have access to this beauty outside my doorstep.
What do you like about volunteering and what inspired you to join NatureKids BC?
As homeschoolers, opportunities to connect with our Texada community is a priority for us. That is what inspired us to join NatureKids BC. Every step of the way people have volunteered to come forward and share their passions with our community’s youth. After every Naturekids BC Explorer Day I feel more connected to my neighbours and nature community. Thank you NatureKids BC for empowering these events and the support to organize them!
Do you have a favourite NatureKids BC moment that you can share with us?
One of my favourite moments during a NatureKids BC Explorer Day was seeing my 7-year-old neighbour discover a moon snail for the first time. It was also my first time seeing one!
