Meet Meghan, one of our amazing NatureKids BC volunteers that helps provide meaningful moments in nature for families in the Kelowna area!
A bit about Meghan!
Meghan is a co-leader for the Kelowna NatureKids Club! She is a full-time student at UBCO and works a variety of jobs that cover her many passions. She is working towards a bachelor of education so that she can teach French to young children. Despite being very passionate about children and their development, Meghan also adores nature. In her spare time you can find her at the beach, on a hike, or on some crazy adventure with friends and her pup!
Why do you feel it is important to encourage families to experience nature?
I think that nature and outdoor play have a huge impact on the development of children. Although all the advancements in technology are useful and impressive, there are certain things they just can’t replicate. Playing and learning outside gives kids the chance to experience risky play, learn about the environment, develop their motor skills and so much more!
Why is nature important to you?
I grew up in a rural part of town where my backyard was simply a forest. My sister and I would climb trees, walk through streams, and make “potions” with berries, dirt and anything else we could find! I grew up surrounded by nature and I truly couldn’t have asked for a better childhood. Not only is nature a place of beauty and peace but also of adventure and thrills. I love everything about nature and will do my best to preserve it and share my love for it with others!
