Meet Molly one of our amazing NatureKids BC volunteers that helps provide meaningful moments in nature for families in the Salmon Arm area!
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you experience nature around you?
I grew up in the Shuswap and moved back here over ten years ago with my son. I feel connected to my community throughout the seasons. My almost daily walk takes me to our local forest and Salmon Arm Bay foreshore. I feel very fortunate to live here and enjoy exploring with a sense of wonder and curiosity. My past studies in Biology and Environmental Studies at the University of Victoria, and a sense of adventure coupled with my love for the outdoors, lead me to a career as an outdoor educator. I worked for Outward Bound in the past and now I am a WildBC facilitator for HCTF Education. I feel passionate about place-based education and connecting youth with nature in different ways.
What do you like about volunteering?
I really enjoy working with the different NatureKids BC staff and other leaders. They really work at collaborating with other organizations. I feel that we provide a unique niche where young and old can learn together. It has been wonderful to see NatureKids BC grow throughout the years and I am looking forward to more exciting projects in the future.
Do you have a favourite NatureKids BC moment that you can share with us?
I started volunteering for NatureKids in Vancouver. There are many highlights throughout the years. Exploring the wetlands in Langley and then with our local club are probably my favorite moments. Seeing the kids and parents’ eyes light up when they find a dragonfly larva or water scorpion never gets old.

Molly, your sense of natural curiosity while building a sense of inquiry with all age groups inspires me to continue to help build a sense of HOPE FOR THE FUTURE! Your buddy and HCTF co-worker, Ollie.
